Good morning. This is Jiaoqiu, the man you met in the docking bay over a conversation about stand mixers.

I'm not sure of your level of familiarity with the technology we have aboard this ship, so, as a former medical doctor, I wanted to extend an offer of help if you need to be shown around the medical tech here. If there's no need for that, then all is well.

smiley face. no, don't write it out, put an emoji in there. no oh god this voice-to-text technology needs to be tweaked. end message and send

Earth? How interesting; I believe I've heard the name, but I know nothing about it or its technology levels in any given year.

Emojis can indeed mimic general feelings without actually reflecting one's current physical state. Where I'm from, 'lmao' became popular for a while, 'laughing my ass off'. Even though the teens would barely be smiling at their phones, let alone actually laughing their asses off.

I'll meet you in the medical wing, then? Have you any particular time you prefer?

[ It takes Jiaoqiu longer than he'd like to get to the medical wing. It's his first time -- well, not counting when he woke up in there after stepping through a space-time portal -- and he hadn't seen much point in going there. And then he'd realized that there was precisely one person that had chosen to be Medical personnel, and that person had obviously had trouble with the technology here.

So. Fine. He'll play doctor (retired) again, just long enough to help out, and then he can go back to pretending he was never a healer at all.

When he arrives, he can't help the faint signs of strain in his expression, damaged muscles and nerves unhappy with the number of steps it had taken to get here. But he's smiling, as polite and unruffled as ever, one hand on the wall to guide where he's going. From the directions he'd gotten from a Host, he must have just walked into the entrance of the med bay.
]

Castiel, I assume? Unless I'm talking to an empty room-- that would be embarrassing. I'm usually far better at sensing those things.

[ Jiaoqiu's pride wants to sniff in offense, but Jiaoqiu's screaming chest muscles say yes please god get me stationary. So he finds the chair, and drops down to sit in it.

It does in fact roll.
]

Alright, let's get this education started.

[ Despite his troubles, Jiaoqiu sounds cheerful enough, rolling himself over to the nearest thing he can hear. It's a screen attached to the head of a cot, and is presumably for displaying vitals and scans. ]

And by that, I do mean an education for both of us. I'm familiar with this level of technology, but not in this particular configuration. Much like trying to learn a new computer while blind, I have no idea where the app icons are. Still, these things are figured out easily enough, especially when you can see.

[ Verbally, he directs the screen to show its base functions. ]

If I'm guessing right, there should be a list of options, like stats, scans, dosage, active monitoring, and so on? These beds will have a lot of technology built into them, like the ability to do all sorts of scans, the ability to administer some types of medicine, deploy sterilization fields, and so on.

Good. I'm assuming the information needed will be the same as any other hospital or medical entity -- name, date of birth, statistics like height and weight and species, priory medical history. In an emergency, you obviously won't have the time to grill a new patient about these things, so the computer may be able to fill in some of them for you automatically with a scan. Blood type, cholesterol levels, allergies, that sort of thing.

[ He runs a hand along the edge of the cot, exploring. The sheets are tucked in with military efficiency and neatness. ]

How comfortable are you with medical emergencies?

Ah, you've healing magic of your own, then? I assume it's currently offline right now.

[ There have been a few other people that Jiaoqiu has talked about this topic with, and so he can only assume that whatever magic the Wayfarers had before coming here, they have all been restricted. His own ability to control fire is gone -- as are his Foxian senses, though they are not magic, so he's not sure what the pattern is. ]

Well, we don't know if we'll ever get magic back. So! Let's learn some of the basic machinery, shall we?

[ Jiaoqiu sounds positively thrilled. He pushes off with a foot, and wheels his way over to what his earpiece is telling him is a cabinet. He opens the first draw, feels his way over the instruments, and brings one out. ]

This is a dermal injector. [ It mostly just looks like a small tube, with a flat end, and a display screen on the side. ] It is for administering medication. Given your level of technical knowledge, I assume your world usually uses needles? This technology has advanced beyond that, and is capable of giving liquid medication via dermal absorption.

[ He presses the flat end to the underside of his forearm, demonstrating. ]

Like this. How knowledgeable are you about medication and drugs?
